A vital link in maintaining individual independence is access to safe, affordable, reliable and accessible transportation. It promotes equality, diversity, economic growth, opportunity, and a desirable quality of life for everyone.

Several years ago, DCC recognized the mobility challenges for low-income families, people with disabilities, and seniors living and working Downriver. There are many people in our local communities that are unable to drive and/or could not afford their own vehicle.  

Upon examining the current transit system it was clear that gaps in service existed for certain groups and/or populations residing in the Downriver area.   As a designated SMART Community Transit Partner/Provider, the DCC is uniquely positioned to be able to answer the need for mobility by providing a transit service that is responsive to the needs of our community. 

DCC continues to find solutions to mobility needs by forging new partnerships, exploring new opportunities and developing new programs.  These partnerships, and the resultant programs have successfully resulted in trips for seniors and homeless individuals for non-emergency medical, personal, and employment related trips, as well as sparking transportation issue awareness, and a forum to exchange information on this topic among the community transit and senior program providers.

Our fleet consists of nine vehicles, most of which are equipped with wheelchair lifts to accommodate disabled/wheelchair-bound passengers. 

Since DCC's Transportation Programs change periodically, for service contact DCC Transportation Dispatch at 734-362-7029 to see if you qualify.  DCC does not guarantee that all callers will qualify or that every trip can be scheduled.  It is best to give as much notice as possible (at least 24 hour notice is required).
